Persephone’s new books for the Spring/Summer have gone on sale today – and there are some real treats to choose from. The hilarious Diary of a Provincial Lady is a must-read, as is Jonathan Smith’s sensitive depiction of a relationship lived out in the shadow of WWI, Wilfred and Eileen. My favourite of the choices, however, is Eugenia Ginzburg’s mesmerising memoir of her imprisonment under Stalin’s Great Purge, Into the Whirlwind. Both horrifying and uplifting, it shouldn’t be missed. – Rachel
