I made sourdough bread! At long last. Baking bread on the hottest day of the year so far could be considered ill advised, but it didn’t work out too badly. My first attempt resulted in a pancake-like mess that welded itself so successfully to my baking tray that it took me half an hour to chisel it off. My second attempt, in a well greased loaf tin, worked out much better. Crunchy, sour and delicious, it was (almost) worth the effort. Though I must say, it still wasn’t a patch on my local bakery! – Rachel
