The Reader, Harold Knight, c. 1910
Over the weekend, I have been doing a bit of tidying and sorting as a precursor to spring cleaning (and as an excellent excuse not to do all the uni work I have on my ‘to do’ list). As I’m sure other bookaholics can understand, I’m in a constant state of outgrowing my bookcases. After some reorganization and determined purging, however, my shelves look much less untidy. I’ve always appreciated the above painting, though, as a reminder that even overflowing bookshelves add a certain comfortable charm to a room. – Miranda
I do love Harold Knight’s paintings. And I know just what you mean about the bookcases. But you have such lovely books–hope you haven’t done too much purging! K x
I love his paintings too. Not too too much…and I admit to have rearranged (added to very top shelf) so I didn’t have to get rid of a lot.
My shelves wish they looked this tidy. Ha! 😉
Hehe 🙂
It’s such a wrench, giving books away, isn’t it, even though they may help a charity. The only solution, I suppose is to do as Harold Knight’s Reader has done and use every tiny space, even if it means a rather jumbly look.
Yes, I do feel I’ve done quite a bit for Oxfam books in my time! But yes, I can’t bring myself to get rid of too much.
More cookbooks?! 😉 x
Haha, Rachel, if I ever manage to (finally!) get all of my books together again, you will see the cookbook collection is in no way disproportionate 😉 x
